Custom Basement Window Well Covers
Clear polycarbonate covers custom measured for the window well, foundation and surrounding area. A fitted cover helps reduce direct rain, snow, leaves, debris and animals entering the well while allowing natural light into the basement.
Reduce Exposure Without Blocking the Light
An uncovered well can collect leaves, windblown debris, snow and direct rainfall. It may also become an attractive space for small animals. A properly fitted clear cover creates a practical barrier while preserving the light that makes a basement room feel more open.
The cover is shaped around the actual well rather than forced onto a standard size. That matters when the well is curved, angled, unusually deep or positioned close to siding, steps, a fence or landscaping.
A Cover Is One Part of Basement Protection
A window well cover can help reduce direct weather and debris entering the well. It does not replace working drainage, correct grading, foundation waterproofing or repairs to a damaged well or basement window.
Why Homeowners Choose Custom Covers
Weather Protection
Helps reduce direct rain, melting snow and windblown material entering the window well.
Less Debris
Helps keep leaves, branches, litter and other material from collecting around the basement window.
Animal Deterrence
Creates a fitted barrier that discourages small animals from entering and becoming trapped in the well.
Natural Light
Clear polycarbonate maintains daylight instead of darkening the basement window with an opaque cover.
Measured for the Well, Window and Foundation
Basement window wells vary in width, projection, height, shape and material. The window style and surrounding property also affect how a cover should sit and how much clearance is required.
- Width, projection and height measured for the actual opening
- Cover style selected for the window and well configuration
- Edges shaped for a cleaner fit against the foundation
- Final placement checked for stability and window operation
When a basement window swings outward, the cover must allow enough operating room. Raised Atrium (Dome) designs may be appropriate for casement and egress windows that need additional clearance. Learn about custom egress covers.
For estimate requests, photographs are especially helpful. Include the window closed and fully open so the required height can be assessed. Compare our custom polycarbonate cover options, or see how measuring and installation work.
Different Basement Wells Need Different Designs
Flat Covers
A low-profile option for suitable wells where the basement window does not need additional outward-opening clearance.
Sloped Covers
A shaped design that helps direct rain and melting snow away from the foundation-side opening.
Atrium (Dome) Covers
A raised custom design for projects requiring added room above the well, including many casement and egress-window configurations.

Basement Window Well Cover FAQs
Are basement window well covers made in standard sizes?
Some retail products use standard sizes, but this service focuses on custom covers measured for the actual well, window and surrounding foundation.
Will a cover stop all water from entering the well?
No cover should be treated as a complete waterproofing system. A fitted cover helps reduce direct rain and snow entering the well, while drainage, grading and foundation conditions remain important.
Do clear covers reduce basement light?
Clear polycarbonate is used to preserve natural light while creating a barrier above the well.
Can you replace a cracked or yellowed cover?
Yes. The existing cover and well can be assessed and the opening measured for a custom replacement.
What if the basement window opens outward?
The open window position must be measured. A raised Atrium (Dome) style cover may be appropriate when additional swing clearance is required.
What should I send for an estimate?
Send the property location, photographs of every well and approximate A (width), B (projection) and C (height) measurements. Include a photo with the window fully open when it swings outward.
